Maintenance Tips

  1. Tyres - to reduce rolling resistance and making cycling easier ensure that they are inflated to the recommenced pressure. This can be found on the side if the tyre, typically 35-85 PSI or 3-6 BAR
  2. Chain and gears - Wipe clean as required and lubricate. Wipe off excess oil to stop it attracting dirt. When oiling the chain with a spray place a page of newspaper behind the chain to prevent oil going onto the frame and wheel.
  3. Clean the frame - use car shampoo and rinse.
  4. An old toothbrush can be useful for dislodging dirt.
  5. Carry a small tool kit for your bike, puncture repair outfit with tyre levers and pump, a spare inner tube, ensure the valve is the same as the existing one.the most common are "Shrader", same as on car tyres and "Presta", which have a small screw, (ask a local bike shop what size you need if you're not sure) Easier to change the tube than try to fix and replace. Fix the punctured one and use that as the spare for next time.
