Mellow Velo -  Cycling for leisure and pleasure

Mellow Velo is an informal group of cyclists who enjoy cycling in the countryside in their leisure time. We organise day and weekend trips to share this pleasure with others. Most rides start from railway stations but we share cars or hire a van where no train service is available.

West Lothian Clarion

The West Lothian Clarion cycling club formed in 2008 as a result of like-minded local cyclists looking for a way of developing their own ability in the company of others.
The aim of the club is to help cyclists plan and reach their own goals through training with, and seeking advice and support from fellow club members.
On Saturdays we have club runs leaving from Linlithgow Leisure Centre and the East Calder Sports Centre. On Sundays a club run starts at the Cross in LInlithgow

Why Walk, Why cycle ?

  • Feel good and have fun - walking and cycling (especially with friends) is a great way to relax and have fun, and on top of that you will be as fit as someone 10 years younger!
  • Stay Healthy -  you can reduce the likelihood of many conditions including coronary heart disease, diabetes and cancer by exercising regularly, as well as reducing the risk of becoming overweight.
  • Spend money on you instead of your car - in addition to the price of fuel, did you know the average cost of maintaining a car each year is £273, compared with just £75 for a bike, and feet are free to use!
  • Feel less stressed regular exercise such as walking and cycling reduces stress and anxiety.
  • Arrive fashionably early - walking and cycling in towns and cities is quicker than car travel, and you won’t need to worry about double yellow lines when you get to your destination
  • Be kind to the environment you are the ultimate source of renewable energy! Did you know that 2kg of carbon are saved for every short journey that is made on foot or by bike, instead of in a car

“I want to ride my bicycle bicycle bicycle; I want to ride my bicycle; I want to ride my bike; I want to ride my bicycle; I want to ride it where I like…; I don’t believe in Peter Pan, Frankenstein or Superman; All I wanna do is bicycle, bicycle, bicycle…”  Freddie Mercury, Queen, 1978
